About this event
Do stands of flickering golden aspen and multicolored maples raise your pulse? Are you a leaf peeper? If so, please join us as we climb Long Island's two highest points to fully enjoy the fall experience. Long Island is expected to reach peak foliage in late October, so hopefully our journey will be fruitful. We will first visit Jayne's Hill in West Hills (Suffolk County), LI, which has the highest recorded elevation on Long Island at 400.9 feet. The second stop will be Harbor Hill in Roslyn, Long Island, which has bragging rights of 348 feet.
We will meet at the Stewart Manor LIRR station at 9:15 a.m. and begin our journey from there. A train is scheduled to depart from Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn and Grand Central Madison at 8:04 and 8:25 a.m., respectively. However, please confirm departure times closer to the date. The total round-trip distance is 45 miles. On the flats, the pace will be at the low end of Advance (15 mph). There are restrooms near both peaks, and the full lunch break will come after the Harbor Hill visit. Please bring enough hydration and bike nourishment to last the duration of the ride, as well as spare tubes, flat-repairing tools, rear lights and a light lock. Please dress appropriately for the weather. The route will be posted and emailed to registrants once it has been finalized.
