Addisleigh Park -Jazz and Sports Legends -- CANCELED
About this event
Come join with the 5BBC and Black Girls Do Bike: Queens-Long Island - as we head to the Addisleigh Park neighborhood in Queens. Addisleigh Park is a middle class neighborhood that developed into the heart and soul of the Black community. It is very possibly the area in NYC with the most star power per block. Among the houses we will be visiting are those of: Fats Waller, Joe Louis, James Brown, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Jackie Robinson, Lena Horne, Roy Campanella and John Coltrane. Also a surprise appearance by a fairly well know NY Yankee.
We leave from Prospect Park and will pick up members of BGDB at Baisley Park. Lunch will be a choice of Trini City [bakes and doubles] or Campeon De Los Pollos [Dominican Chicken]. Lunch is at Mile 20, so bring a snack if you get hangry. Ride is 31 miles long, with a total elevation of 600 feet. Moderate pace - with stops where we discuss the history of this amazing community.
Bring a strong lock as lunch is on street parking. Bring a spare tube and your usual bike things. And of course, you need a helmet. So, come to this joint ride with BGDB: Queens-Long Island, make some new friends, and learn about Addisleigh Park.
