[Note: This ride was originally scheduled for 9/7.]
New York’s Five Borough Bicycle Club (5BBC) is proud to partner with the Bronx River Alliance on this classic bicycle ride that showcases the length of the Bronx River from Soundview Park to the Kensico Dam in Westchester.
The Bronx River, New York City’s only fresh-water river, used to be a littered eyesore and open sewer. Fortunately, there were visionaries who committed themselves to restoring and surrounding it with parks and greenways. Those efforts spawned the Bronx River Alliance which remains the driving force for maintaining and enhancing this valuable asset for its environmental benefits and for the enjoyment of all New Yorkers and especially the underserved Bronx communities that surround it.
We will meet at Soundview Field House, 1550 Lafayette Ave, Bronx, Saturday, September 14th at 9:00 AM. If the ride gets postponed, all registrants will be notified by 9:00 PM the evening before. Our 41-mile (round-trip) route is mostly on the Bronx River Greenway (or “Pathway” as they call it in Westchester) but there are a few gaps where we will ride on roads with vehicle traffic. Lunch is at Kensico Dam Plaza; you can either bring lunch or buy it en route. The ride will end at the Norwood subway station where you can catch the D train.
