Intro to Long Distance Bike Riding for Beginners -- BROOKLYN

If you are new to rides that are 20 miles or more, this free class is for you. We’ll learn how to make those longer rides easier and more comfortable. This is also the best place to ask every embarrassing bike riding question you’ve been holding back – we are here to help!

We won’t be doing ANY serious riding during this class – we will pedal a very short distance while we learn how to have more fun on longer rides.

Here’s what you need to participate in this class:

* A helmet.

* Come dressed to ride.

* You should already know how to ride a bicycle. You don’t need to be an expert, but you DO need to know how to pedal in a straight line and stop safely.

* Bring a bike in good shape that fits you. That means that the brakes and gear shifters work.

If you don’t know how to use the gear shifters that’s FINE, but they do need to be in working order – this is mandatory.

If you’re not sure if your shifters work, stop by your local bike shop and ask them – they’ll be happy to help. You probably don’t need a complete tune-up from your shop at this time – we just need to confirm that your shifters are working. We cannot fix your gear shifters during class. (And your bike shop can’t fix them five minutes before class starts, so if you need to visit your shop do so far in advance of class day.)

We will have two sessions of this class on the same date – one in Central Park from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.; the other in Prospect Park from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. The classes will be identical, so there’s no reason to attend both of them. (We’re just offering them in two different locations so you can attend the one closest to you.) Please read carefully and make sure you are signing up for the right class.

Rain or temperatures below 45 degrees cancels the class. (Yes, I’ve pedaled in the rain and in colder weather. No, I don’t want to!)
