Since we introduced this ride a few years ago it has been a fun-filled success with multiple variations. This is the variation that starts in Garden City at the Country Life Press LIRR station and incorporates a fairly new twist with a bike path by a lake. A train from the City arrives just before our 9:30 start. If driving, there is plenty of free on street parking. What more could you ask, other than for the weather to cooperate.
So, start some spring training and come join us for a fun, fairly flat 35ish mile ride that combines two of our non-north shore favorite Nassau County locations, Garden City and Hewlett Harbor. This may be a ride of a thousand turns, but you will enjoy most of them, as once we arrive at our various destinations, we meander about getting a flavor for the areas.
Ride is listed as moderate, but speed will likely be at the higher end of moderate. Please be able to maintain and sustain at least 13mph on the flats when necessary.
Normally, we would stop and pick up lunch, but for this ride, please bring your lunch as a picnic. Also bring snacks and sufficient hydration, as it is very unlikely that we will stop to pick up food. VERY IMPORTANT THE Lunch stop will likely be late in the ride near the lake, so be sure to have snacks to hold you over. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore new and unknown areas.
