Ride to Fab Pro Freestyle Ice Skating Show/Bryant Park

RIDE IS ON AS PLANNED. . . midtown streets and lanes looking OK, we will reroute from our original West side Greenway just in case, but ride definitely a go.  Mind the temps, dress for layering success and some stationery watching at Bryant.

Let's enjoy cycling to (and from) this wonderful professional ice dance performance. The group Le Patin Libre from Montreal is performing their "Threshold" al fresco and free in Bryant Park in February. Think Ice Capades "with attitude" . . . Nijinski crossed with Paul Taylor . . . plus a liberal helping of Straight Outta Compton/hip hop. . They certainly tromp on and whirl around stuffy figure skating rules! And zero sparkles, spangles or tutus. They keep it really real.

Meet promptly with bike, ready to roll out, at Central Park Boathouse (restrooms there) . We'll meander over to the West Side Greenway (past more restrooms) then over to Bryant Park, lock bikes, and go to enjoy the show (enter from 6th Ave/W41st Street side of Bryant). Viewing is SRO around the rink edge, and the show runs 8:30-9, so BYO shoes, warm layers, and food/nosh/bevs if you like (+ I.D. just in case they're rationing ringside spots and checking in folks). Expect it to be a bit crowded at the start (mask up?) but thin out as show progresses.  Post-show we bike back to our start location in Central Park.

TIP
:  The public (with previously reserved time slots) is invited to skate after the show with troupe members on the open ice rink... that runs till 10. . . . (so run and book yours if interested).

Our bike route will be in 2 parts:  to Bryant Park from our Central Park start; then our return to the same start spot.  Route will be over mixed surfaces including urban streets, some bike lanes, and a bike path/greenway. While the mileage won't impress any Olympians amongst us, the payoff of being delighted by the freewheeling ice dancing is well worth it. Cue sheet will be provided to registered riders the morning of the ride.

Psst - - The troupe also performs at Bryant Park on the 20th and 21st, both starting same time 8:30PM).

Be sure bike is in good working order, flat fixing gear, etc.
