The PS stands for Public Schools. In particular we are paying tribute the the outstanding architectural works of school designer extraordinaire James W. Naughton. In 1879 the Brooklyn Board of Education appointed James Naughton to be the Superintendent of Buildings. And build he did. Over the next 20 years Naughton designed more than 100 educational buildings. In this ride, we will visit seven examples of his amazing work. Boys High, Girls High, and other examples of his iconic school designs. Many of which continue to be used as schools to this date.
In this 21 mile moderate paced ride, we will hopscotch various Brooklyn neighborhoods including Prospect Heights, Williamsburg, Bushwick and Cypress Hills. In addition to the architectural nature of the ride, we will also take a lap around Highland Reservoir as its along the route and nice to pop in. In keeping with the historic nature of this ride - Lunch will be at Neirs Tavern, proudly serving Woodhaven since 1829.
Parts of this ride we have done before, and parts are a true scout. Thus, be prepared for a whoopsie or two en route. Take a sturdy lock, spare tube/tools, and a love of amazing architecture.
