Mileage: 40
Elevation: 2,700 + ft
This will be an Upper Moderate Pace ride (12-15 mph on the flats) with over 2,700 ft. of climbing. We're crossing two bridges and climbing up and over Storm King Mountain to explore the landscapes of the Hudson Valley. The ride will start at the Beacon train station, at 9:30am. We will pedal down 9D, a fairly busy road with one section that goes through a tunnel. It also has the occasional narrow shoulder to cross our first bridge, The Bear Mountain Bridge.
From there, we will wind our way up to the top of Storm King Mountain. At the top we will stop for some photos and a rest before heading back down. Be prepared for some 5-8% grade hills to get up and over Storm King. We will then cruise through a few towns before taking the Newburgh-Beacon bridge back over and making our way back to Beacon.
As this is a scout ride there are a few food options in a few towns along our path. Depending on everyone’s level of hunger and energy we will make a group decision. Bring cash and/or card.
If you’re arriving via Metro North, there is a train departing Grand Central at 7:50 a.m., arriving at 9:30 a.m. For those driving, please park in the Beacon Train station parking lot and be ready to go when the train folks arrive.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: Please 'unregister' if you can not make the ride so waited list folks can move up and take the slot. All riders should come equipped with a helmet, spare tube and tire levers, sunscreen, snacks, full water bottles, a tail light for when we go through the tunnel, and a bike in good condition. Additionally be familiar with the current criteria for riding with the Club.
