RIDE DESCRIPTIONS
Helmets are required on all Club rides. While electronic bikes with throttles are not allowed, pedal-assist bicycles are permitted. Additionally, the Club prohibits the use of aero-bars on any ride. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in immediate disqualification from any 5BBC ride.
Ride classifications below indicate general pace guidelines. The ride leader’s pace range falls within the given classification—for example, a 12-15 mph ride means the leader's pace will be between 12 and 15 mph, but not exceeding 15. The ride average reflects the overall speed over the entire ride, factoring in acceleration, deceleration, hills, wind, and traffic conditions. No ride maintains a constant stated pace throughout. At times, speeds may reach the upper limit of the range for extended periods. Unless otherwise noted by the ride leader, the maximum pace represents the speed a rider can expect under normal road conditions. Leaders can post a ride using the full pace range or specify a particular speed.
Happy Face Rides 😊
New to cycling or feeling a little nervous about city riding? These rides are perfect for beginners and casual riders, offering low mileage and a relaxed pace of 8-12 mph. The group stays together with point, drop, and sweep, ensuring no one gets left behind. Frequent rest stops make these rides a fun and social way to gain confidence on two wheels. If you love easygoing rides with plenty of camaraderie, this one’s for you!
Moderate Rides 🚴♂️
Want to ride while still soaking in the sights? Moderate Rides cruise at 12-15 mph, striking a perfect balance between adventure and ease. With point, drop, and sweep, these rides welcome both moderate and advanced cyclists who enjoy a steady touring pace. It’s an ideal way to cover more ground while still enjoying the journey.
Advanced Rides 💨
Ready to push yourself while still enjoying the ride? Advanced Rides move at 15-17 mph, designed for cyclists who want a faster pace without turning it into an all-out race. Some rides may include point, drop, and sweep, while others may not—so be prepared! These are great for experienced riders looking for longer distances, a steady rhythm, and a good challenge without sacrificing the fun of group cycling.
Quick Spin Rides ⚡🚴
Not for the faint of heart—these rides are fast, fierce, and built for speed! Expect 17-20+ mph with minimal stops and no point, drop, or sweep—meaning you’re responsible for keeping up. Designed for advanced cyclists and beyond, these rides cover distances from 25 miles to 75+, tackling everything from rolling hills to steep climbs. If you thrive on adrenaline, endurance, and the thrill of the ride, this is where you belong! 🔥💨
Please follow the above guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride for everyone. Choose a ride that matches your abilities. If you’re unsure, opt for a ride in the next lower classification. Avoid pushing the pace on a ride that feels too easy for you, or trying to slow down a group if the pace is too difficult. Riders who go ahead of the leader are on their own. If you plan to leave the ride early, notify the leader.
Arrive 10-15 minutes before the start time to ensure the ride departs on schedule. Make sure your bike is in proper working order before you arrive, as ride leaders are not expected to act as mechanics. Carry a spare tube, tools to fix a flat, a patch kit, a pump, nutrition, and at least one water bottle. Helmets are required—no helmet, no ride.
Leaders are expected to maintain the advertised pace. They have the authority to remove anyone whose actions may endanger the safety of other riders. Be sure to check the Club’s website and your email at least two hours before the ride for any updates or go/no-go decisions due to weather or road conditions.
In summary, come prepared to honor the pace of the ride you’ve signed up for. Helmets are mandatory, and without one, you will not be allowed to participate. And remember, do not pass the ride leader.
