Kreischerville - A Forgotten Boro Romp
About this event

Kreischerville, now known as Charleston, was a 19th-century industrial company town established by Bavarian immigrant Balthasar Kreischer in 1854. Famous for its fire brick factory that utilized local clay deposits, their yellow bricks can still be found in many older buildings in NYC. The "company town" consisted not only of the factory - but also had the owners mansions on the hill, workers' housing, and a church. These are still standing. And, if you were visiting Kreischerville, the best place to stay was at the inn ran by Nicolas Killmeyer - who bought the property from Balthasar Kreischer in 1855. Killmeyer's is still here too, and is our lunch destination. As a bonus, along the way we will stop at the Blazing Star Cemetery and the Staten Island Boat Graveyard.
This is a 40 mile ride to be held at a moderate pace. There is 961 feet of elevation, with the steepest being a 7% incline. Lunch is around the 20 mile mark. We are meeting at 9:45 and catching the 10:00 ferry.
Come join us as we explore this remote part of Staten Island.
