In the Hindu tradition, Ganesh is the Revealer of Possibilities and the Remover of Obstacles. He brings blessings for new beginnings, inspiring happiness and wisdom. Sounds like the God we need for these times. The Ganesh Temple in Flushing is a place of deep spirituality and beauty. And their canteen is a place of delicious South Indian vegetarian food.
To get there, we ride through central Brooklyn and enter Queens via Cooper Ave. We travel through Glendale, Rego Park, and Kew Gardens. When we get to Kissena Park, we will likely take a lap around the lake to work up an appetite before lunch. After lunch, we will spend some time in the Temple [dress appropriately and remove shoes before entering]. On the way back, we will take the northern route along the Flushing Bay Marina, then cross back into Brooklyn over the Greenpoint Bridge.
This ride is 30 miles long with 700+ feet of elevation. The steepest section is 5.3 percent. Lunch is at the 15-mile mark. Parking is on the street. Do not rely on Ganesh to protect your bike - bring a good lock.
