Governors Island Arts presents its 5th annual Governors Island Ice Sculpture Show and competition on 3/8/26. Ten artists are paired with a professional ice carver from Okamoto Studio during this free public event. We'll get to see real-time ice carving, and ice carving workshops, and be cheered by a professional DJ. We'll have a nosh break, with choices from Makina Café (Ethiopian) in Colonels Row at the fest, as well as food trucks with winter-themed treats (or BYO). This event was originally set for 2/7 . . but if you recall those single digit temps . . wise decision back then to postpone.
Hop onto the free Governors Island-direct ferry from the beautiful, restored terminal just East of the Staten Island Ferry (free for all <11AM); then we bike/ramble about the island, exploring the many paths and vistas, including the restored fort and perhaps some other exhibits. Carving starts noon, so we'll hit the actual ice carving event to enjoy, oogle, and oooh/aaaah.
Food trucks available for lunch/snacks. BYO all usual bike kit/gear, including lock for (as we will lock up bike to enable walking around sculptures, or at other spots of interest on the island) and enjoying the event . . maybe even throw down a few creative dance moves to their DJ music.

Option to return via the same ferry to 10 South Street; or the NYC Ferry (small fee) to any destination along their South Brooklyn route.
Bikes free on both ferries, but may be subject to capacity (I've never had any problem . . . wanted to mention possibility, though).
START Battery Maritime building, 10 South Street; inside waiting room if space permits.
https://tinyurl.com/rbtawzhv Ferry is free before 11AM (also always free other times to many categories of NYC residents, with proof per ferry website).
OR if you let leader know in advance, you can meet us at our Governor's Island ferry landing if you are taking the NYC ferry from a diff point (be sure to be on Gov. Island on time AND at the correct landing, for our group's ferry which left Manhattan's Battery Maritime Bldg on the 1030AM ferry and arrives Gov. Island not too many minutes after that). We'll do our bike check after we form up on Gov. Island.
FINISH Your option to return via either of the 2 ferries.
NOTE Cross listed NYCC as C14 ride.
