A Mediocre Ride for a Mediocre President

About this event

Our destination for this ride is Fillmore’s Tavern in Fresh Meadows.  This is a ride from the old 5bbc Playbook that I was introduced to by Ed Pino and Liz Baum, who had it handed down to them by Danny Lieberman.

Why Fillmore’s?  It is a tavern that originated in this spot in 1912.  During Prohibition, it was a Speakeasy.  It has been a neighborhood mainstay serving excellent food and drink with a friendly ambience for over a century.  In 1977, it took on its current name after the mediocre 13th President, Millard Fillmore.

This is an ADVANCED Moderate ride.  Although we will be riding at 13-14 mph pace on flat terrain, there are a lot of rolling hills on this ride, so if you are not comfortable shifting gears, this ride is not for you.

This ride will be a tour through many neighborhoods, starting in Cunningham Park, and going through Douglaston, Bay Terrace, Whitestone, and Flushing, before getting to Fillmore’s. Lunch will be near the end of the ride at Mile 21.8.  Please bring snacks to keep you fortified!.   You have been warned to bring pocket food to keep your tummy happy until lunch.

Please bring a lock, hydration and a spare tube.  Make sure your bike is in good working condition before leaving home in the morning.

There is an LIRR train arriving at Hollis at 10:15 AM for those taking the train.

This ride is limited to 10 riders with 2 leaders because of the limited seating capacity at the restaurant.

Below is the RWGPS.

Please bring a bike in good working order. Please make sure your tires are properly inflated, bring a spare tube and water.  As always, a properly fitted helmet is required.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS:

If you are unable to attend the ride, please "unregister" in a timely fashion so that those on the waitlist can move up and take the spot. Lastly, if you sign up for the waitlist and receive a waitlist notification, you must open the email and register for the ride using the link provided in the email. The system does not automatically bump you up to the ride if a spot becomes available.
