The 5BBC will be running two very limited registration metric century plus rides to Montauk in May on two separate dates. One will be at a moderate pace and one at an advanced pace. In anticipation of those rides, we will be listing two rides that will function as partial scout rides for the leaders of the moderate ride. This is the second of the rides meeting at the Bridgehampton LIRR station and heading out to Montauk where we will take a return train either back to Bridgehampton or back to the City.
As of the listing date, the LIRR time table for April is not available, so we are going by past history. Please check back to be sure the times have not changed. We leave from the Bridgehampton LIRR station at 10:30 am. A train from the city is scheduled to arrive a bit before that. If driving to the start, please be there no later than 10:15 am so that you are ready to leave exactly at 10:00 am. Parking is free at the Bridgehampton station.
The ride out east to Montauk is quite scenic with incredible homes and numerous water views. We will be moving at a moderate touring pace and would prefer to stay together as a group with minimal use of point-drop-sweep. The ride also has two sections with some hills, fun hills that pay you back with fun downhills. Once we get to Montauk, we will be taking the 2:45 pm train back west. Our pace will be steady to be sure we make this train. Please bring a bungee cord to secure your bike on the train. Also bring snacks, hydration and an upbeat positive attitude ready to explore. Registration is limited given the partial scouting nature of the ride. Note, that the ride may be co-listed with Suffolk Bicycle Riders Association (SBRA).
History
The Montauk Century is more than a ride—it's a tradition that began in 1964, when cyclists first headed east to the end of Long Island. Stewardship later passed to the AYH Bike Committee—now 5BBC—but the spirit never changed: long roads, committed riders, and the unforgettable roll into Montauk.
Today, as the originator of the Montauk Century, 5BBC continues that legacy with the reimaged Montauk Series, Many Ways to Montauk. Ride it point-to-point, make a weekend of it, or find your own way east. However you get there, the destination and that feeling when you roll into town, remains the same.
