This romp through the "Forgotten Borough" takes us to some wacky and wild Staten Island finds. We first reach Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Grotto- which must be seen to be appreciated. We then ramble through Historic Richmondtown, and into old St. Andrew's Cemetery to the trail through LaTourette Park. [This is NOT a paved trail.]. Next stop along the way is the grave of Icabod Crane. Yes, he did exist. After paying our respects, it's off to lunch at delicious Pho Mac.
Following lunch, we ride through Westerleigh and the photogenic Westerleigh Park. Through Clove Lakes Park, and continuing around beautiful Alison Pond. Then it's back to the ferry and a well deserved boat ride.
Ride is 23 miles with 850 feet of elevation. Steepest climb is 6.4%. Not terrible for Staten Island. Meeting place is 10:15 at the Manhattan Ferry Terminal to catch the 10:30 ferry. Option meeting point is the Staten island Boro Hall after the ferry docks.
