We tip our hat to Maureen with the title. Come join us for the best pie, Briermere pie. If you have had it, you know. If you haven’t, what are you waiting for?
The ride meets and leaves at about 9:30 from the Mastic Shirley LIRR station. A train from the City is scheduled to arrive at about that time. If driving (parking is free at the station), please arrive 20 minutes before, so we are ready to pedal as soon as those on the train arrive.
Our destination is Briermere farms where we will buy a pie or two to accommodate all attendees and split the cost amongst us. The pies are only sold whole, not by the slice. I will bring a pie cutter and a bunch of forks. Briermere has plates and napkins. Btw, I am partial to their blueberry crisp pie.
The ride is around 47 miles on mostly quiet (but not totally), sometimes scenic (hopefully the bison herd is out for us), flat and rolling roads. There is one ugly intersection by construction. I have listed the ride as moderate, but it will be at the higher end of moderate and we would prefer to ride as a group with no point-drop-sweep. We will be keeping a steady pace in the hope that those taking the train will get back in time for the earlier train, not the later one. Any questions, please ask.
Please bring cash for the pie, plenty of hydration, the usual bike stuff and an upbeat positive attitude ready to explore while craving pie. Please also note that this ride will likely be cross-listed with SBRA.
