Terminal A - LaGuardia's Deco Masterpiece
About this event

The old Marine Air Terminal (also known as Terminal A) still exists at La Guardia Airport. Its Art Deco main building opened in 1940, and was built to handle Pan Am's fleet of flying boats, the Boeing 314 Clippers. The Marine Air Terminal was LaGuardia Airport's original terminal for overseas flights. In the 1940s, LaGuardia was the only major airport in the U.S. which offered regular flights to Europe. The highlight of Terminal A is “Flight”, a mural measuring 12 feet tall and 237 feet long. Completed by James Brooks in 1942. It was the largest mural created as part of the Depression-era Works Progress Administration.
