To commemorate Native American Heritage Month, we will be visiting some historic sites in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Humans lived in New York City for thousands of years before European explorers such as Giovanni da Verrazzano and Henry Hudson arrived here. Native Americans lived, farmed, fished, hunted, traded, and played throughout North America, and that included New York City. We’ll explore areas of Brooklyn and lower Manhattan where Native Americans lived and will try to imagine what their lives were like before the Europeans. We’ll also discuss the impact of Europeans after their arrival, how Native Americans continue to influence the City, and discuss the fate of Native Americans in New York.
We'll be making a number of stops, so this ride will of necessity be a Happy Face paced-ride. Total distance will be about 21 miles.
The ride is being co-led by Ride Leader Trainee Margery Cooper.
