New to Brooklyn or to the 5BBC? Like safe rides with beautiful sites? Enjoy German food & the Oktoberfest atmosphere?
Whether you are a new member on your first 5BBC ride; or if you consider yourself a grizzled NYC bike veteran, you will have fun on our 8th annual Brooklyn Oktoberfest ride. This is a great, 20-mile Happy-Face ride around some of Brooklyn's best bike paths and bike lanes. We start in Prospect Park at Grand Army Plaza at 9:45 AM and then tour through scenic areas of Gowanus, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Dumbo, Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bed-Stuy.
95% of the route is on bike lanes, with many protected bike paths, and beautiful waterfront scenery. We will ride up the Brooklyn waterfront and meander in beautiful McCarren Park. We will stop for a 1-hour Lunch stop at Radegast Hall during their Oktoberfest celebration. They have a special Oktoberfest menu, as well as the traditional German fare. Radegast Hall usually has a DJ playing German music. If you end your ride here they typically have live music starting later in the afternoon. Otherwise, the ride finishes back at Grand Army Plaza in the afternoon. Prost!
