About this event
Ride the towpath used to haul goods to Trenton and the rest of the world. We meet at Pennsylvania Station in New York at 8:45AM and depart for The Trenton Transportation Center just after 9:14AM aboard The New Jersey Transit train to Trenton. (Train is FREE 8/26-9/2) Our pace is relaxed (10 to 12mph) on our way to Lambertville for a special country kitchen luncheon. One of the places we pass is Washington's Crossing, a little-noted mile marker along the way. Something happened here that changed the course of human history. General Washington crossed the Delaware with 5,400 troops, surprised a Hessian force celebrating Christmas at their winter quarters in Trenton and kept the American Revolution alive. We'll be enjoying the comradeship of our fellow cyclists and the friendliness of the local folks along The Canal. Nature awaits to greet us and you'll love the lush scenery.
Gravel, mountain, or hybrid bikes highly recommended. Bring your sense of adventure, your favorite insect repellant, & 2 water bottles. Strong possibility of path closures & wet conditions. Bonus: ride NJ Transit FREE August 26 through September 2!
