Spring is on the horizon! Birds are chirping, flowers are blooming and the 5bbc is crossing the Hudson to ride on quiet, suburban roads through Northern New Jersey to our lunch destination in Closter. Originally pronounced Clowster in Dutch times and changed to Clooster when the British arrived, the pronunciation changed for the final time in 1795 when it was Americanized to Closter, with a long “o.”
While practicing how to pronounce Closter correctly, we will ride at a Moderate pace (12-15 mph on flat terrain) with only 1,310 feet of elevation, according to RWGPS. We will have one fun/serious climb up Churchill on the way back to the GW Bridge.
Lunch is at Pattiserie Florentine (https://www.patisserieflorentine.com/menu-closter) or at Wally’s Bagel Nosh (https://www.wallysbagelsnj.com/menu), and will come between miles 19 and 20, when we get to Closter.
