A holiday whistle stop cycling tour of the "best of the best" (yes, we luv that line from movie Top Gun) of Manhattan's iconic holiday lights and trees, book-ended between XMAS and NYE (far fewer crowds!).. Merrily we'll roll along past and thru some iconic NYC trees, holiday decor and lighting, including wonderful surprises off the beaten track. Emphasis on riding with the briefest of "OOHs and AHHHs" stops. Of course, we'll hit the mandatory Rock Center tree and Saks Fifth Ave light/music show; Washington Sq. Park monument tree, and the NY Stock Exchange and tree. Our route will be mostly on city streets (a few very popular at holidays) plus occasional bike lanes/paths, so be prepared to deal with NYC at it's wide panoply. OK for many bike types but we suggest picking wider tire/more stable bikes from your riding quiver, using if you can "regular" pedals given traffic and some walk-maneuvering we'll be doing at a few "can't miss" stops.
And please do bedeck yourselves and bike with holiday spirit (as long as safe riding observed) and for sure, as many lights as you can stack on your body and the bike (gotta be seen!). Do dress extra warm, given it's night, colder, some stopping (lights, trees, etc), yaddah yaddah.
This is not a loop ride, we start at north end of CPk (restrooms inside Charles Dana Discovery center brick building), wind southward with some fun zig zags), ending at the Seaport on Fulton/Pearl Sts.
Optional apres activity = head for a bite to eat or cocoa or adult bevs nearby, Dutch Treat (cover your own repast).
Bring all the usuals, bevs/snacks if you need, flat changing tools, yaddah, yaddah.
Mileage = 6
