It’s hard to picture New York City without thinking of a few of the iconic bridges that connect Manhattan to the other boroughs. The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most well-known, stretching over 6,000 feet from one end to the other. The Manhattan Bridge is slightly longer at 6,855 feet. The George Washington Bridge, the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, and the Roosevelt Island Bridge are all named after legendary presidents. According to research, the Big Apple has 789 bridges in total. This places the city third in the number of bridges after Boston and Los Angeles, which are first and second, respectively.
Will you join us as we cross some of these famous bridges? Our 30-mile round-trip trek will begin at Grand Army Plaza and take us across seven bridges - Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg, Queensboro, Kosciuszko, John Jay Byrne, and the Pulaski - and gain slightly less than 1,000 feet in elevation.
The pace will be at the low end of Advance (15 mph). Rain or very cold temps at the start cancel. Check your email and the club’s website before heading out. Make certain your bike is in good working order and bring the familiar essentials to keep you going: a lock to secure your bike, spare tube(s) and tools to fix a flat; a helmet (required); and enough snacks and beverages to fortify you throughout the ride.
