About this event
- For those of us who couldn't do this ride in October (and everyone else), we're listing it again. Trains to Poughkeepsie are back on normal schedule.
- We will visit 4 historic bridges: Springtown Truss Bridge in New Paltz, Rosendale Trestle, Perrine's Bridge (2nd oldest covered bridge in NY), and of course the one and only Walkway Over the Hudson.
- It's now later in the year so don't expect to see fall foliage.
- You must bring lights. It could be dark on the last part of our ride, and it will definitely be dark on our return to NYC.
- Ride distance is 40 miles and elevation gain is a moderate 1350 ft. The route includes 8 miles of crushed stone and hardpack trail that should be acceptable to most cyclists but there could be a few muddy spots.
- Category is listed as moderate. We will try to cruise at 14 mph (the upper end of moderate) except on the unpaved segment.
- Meet 7:30 AM at GCT for the 7:50 to Poughkeepsie. Purchase your ticket to Poughkeepsie in advance using the MTA TrainTime app. Do not stay in the waiting room. Go directly to the platform, board the train, and find a place for you and your bike.
- If you are driving to Poughkeepsie or have another way of getting there, meet us at the station at 9:57.
- Lunch is at a restaurant in Rosendale.
- Helmets are required on all 5BBC rides. A bungee will help secure your bike on the train.
