UPDATE: CANCELLED :( Thought we might be able to squeeze this one in. Unfortunately, the rain has started and we are about to get hammered by a cyclone hitting NY, in September no less! This cancellation is due fully to climate change and global warming. :(
Easy ride on Brooklyn Bike Lanes with wurst!
New to Brooklyn or to the 5BBC? Like safe rides with beautiful sites? Enjoy German food & the Oktoberfest atmosphere?
Whether you are a new member on your first 5BBC ride; or if you consider yourself a grizzled NYC bike veteran, you will have fun on our 7th annual Brooklyn Oktoberfest ride. This is a great, 20-mile Happy-Face ride around some of Brooklyn's best bike paths and bike lanes. We start in Prospect Park at Grand Army Plaza at 9:45 AM and then tour through scenic areas of Gowanus, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Dumbo, Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bed-Stuy.
95% of the route is on bike lanes, with many protected bike paths, and beautiful waterfront scenery. We will ride up the Brooklyn waterfront and meander in beautiful McCarren Park. At 11:00 AM, we will have a 1-1/2-hour Lunch stop at Radegast Hall during their Oktoberfest celebration. They have a special Oktoberfest menu, as well as the traditional German fare. Radegast Hall will have a DJ playing German music. If you end your ride here they have live music at 3PM - an awesome German brass band. Otherwise, the ride finishes back at Grand Army Plaza in the afternoon. Prost!
WHAT TO BRING:
Helmet (REQUIRED)
A GOOD bike lock (a U-lock or chain is recommended; cables are not sufficient.)
A spare bike tube
A bottle of water
Mobile phone
Valid identification (Note that Radegast Hall does not accept NYC IDs.)
Lunch money
Oktoberfest clothing / accessories if you have them (hat, Lederhosen, Drindl, etc.)
Begeisterung!
