In 2008, New York City embarked on a bold experiment that temporarily closes miles of major city thoroughfares to vehicles, transforming them into car-free public spaces, and Summer Streets was born. 5BBC was an original participant, and the Club has continued the tradition ever since, as the venue has grown in scope from the original route connecting the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park via Park Avenue to encompassing the entire length of this famed artery, as well as the other boroughs, offering expert bike repairs to anyone who needs them.

This year, DOT has formally recognized our Club’s continued dedication and commitment to not only this event but the newly inaugurated Earth Day celebrations in each borough. Everyone is encouraged to read the attached letter from our contact at DOT, Kenny Placencio.
