After many years, it's time to make some updates to the Club's bylaws. The current Bylaws are here for reference:
5BBC Bylaws. The new proposed Bylaws are here:
2025-10 - Proposed Bylaws.
All the changes are shown in red text and comments on the right side provide the reason behind the change.
Below is an overview of the changes made:
1. Various minor grammatical corrections, stylistic editing, and copyediting was performed throughout the document for clarity.
2. Information was added to clarify the policy on minor children in club rides and activities.
3. The minimum number of membership meetings was removed to give the Membership Coordinator more flexibility.
4. The name Co-leader was changed to Leader Trainee to avoid confusion.
5. The Leadership Training program has been changed to add more flexibility for members, so some of the language in the Article III Leadership has been updated.
6. The name Ride Coordinator was changed to Day Trips Coordinator to differentiate from the Weekend Trips Coordinator on the Council.
7. The 3 standing committees that were previously required are now optional since they're not always required.
8. The scope of the Audit Committee's responsibilities was expanded to be more comprehensive.
9. The bylaws were updated to reflect that the Treasurer will handle collecting membership dues and our new website handles maintaining the membership data.
10. The bylaws were updated to ensure that Board members must be club members.
11. The bylaws were updated to clarify that the Director, Officer, or Coordinator positions can be held by more than 2 people.
12. Since only the members of the Executive Board are voting members, the Quorum will be determined by those on the Executive Board.
13. The Nominating Committee will use email to present their report and to handle nominations.
14. Since many Officer positions go uncontested during elections, an option to skip the election for those positions was added.
15. The election system is now automated so the need to appoint a person to chair a committee to receive the ballots was removed.
16. It was clarified that a member cannot serve on two positions on the Board, but can serve on both the Board and as a Coordinator on the Council since only Board members have voting rights.
17. The bylaws were updated to clarify that the Club shall adopt guidelines outlining the authority and power of Directors, Officers, Coordinators, Leaders, and Members but only at the discretion of the Board.
