Ready for a breezy escape from the city hustle? Join us for a fun, all-greenway ride from Van Cortlandt Park to the legendary Walter’s Hot Dogs in White Plains! We’ll wind through shaded woods and peaceful bike paths for a relaxed-yet-energizing adventure with a delicious destination.

Long Island is replete with neighborhood pizzerias. Some good, some not so good, and some excellent. The club has rides where a pizzeria is just the lunch stop or the pizzeria(s) is/are the whole reason for the ride. A few of the club favorites are Knapp Street Pizza and L & B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn, and Grace Pizza and New Park Pizza in Queens.

The ride will start and end in Kew Gardens, Queens. We need to put in significant miles to burn off the pizza calories we will consume! The first stop on this ride is Pizzeria G in Garden City, N.Y., Nassau, at the intersection of 7th Street and Franklin Avenue. After our first stop, we will ride north to reach the second pizzeria, Vincent‘s Pizzeria, in Williston Park, N.Y., Nassau, at the intersection of I.U. Willets Road and Willis Avenue. After our meal at Vincent‘s Pizzeria, we will take I.U. Willets Road, Union Turnpike, 75th Avenue, and various side streets back to our starting point in Kew Gardens, Queens.

A 33-mile ride to the Rockaways at a moderate-lite pace to look for endangered species Piping Plovers and other shore birds.

Join us on a ride to the Rockaways, where we will meet with a Brooklyn Bird Club Walk Leader (and 5BBC member) to look for shore birds who summer on the beach. Among the species we might see are Least Terns, Piping Plovers, American Oyster Catchers, and Black Skimmers. We will loop by riding over the Marine Park Bridge and returning on the Crossbay Bridge.

Piping Plovers are an endangered species. Because of the impact of global warming and encroaching development on nesting areas, there are only about 8000 Piping Plovers left on earth. Some (fewer than 100) spend their summers here in New York City. They will be in the Rockaways in late spring and will stay there until they migrate south in the fall.

When we pause on our ride, we will do a short walk to the beach. We will learn about migration and nesting, how habitat degradation affects breeding, and how volunteer groups and government agencies such as the National Park Service work to protect habitat. We will look for nesting areas of young plovers and their parents. We will bring binoculars to share to enable us to observe the birds from a safe distance. We also encourage riders to bring binoculars (not mandatory).

Will we see plovers this year? We are scheduling the ride to take place when the tide is not too high and the chicks are young so their parents won‘t wander too far from their nests, but there are no guarantees. We missed them in 2021 and 2022, but saw some in 2023 and 2024. We should see other species of shore birds even if we don‘t see any plovers. While walking along the ocean, you may forget that you are within the city limits of one of the largest cities in the world.

A light moderate, (non-point drop ride) 30-mile scout ride to Hoboken, NJ to famous Fiore‘s deli, an old time Italian deli, (cash only) which is known for its freshly made mozzarella cheese and Italian sandwiches, (approx. $9.00) peppers, pasta, bread, Italian staples, etc. Bring a backpack, as we will be stopping at the Japanese market, Mitsuwa, for some treats, as we believe in diversity. The ride includes a few twists, turns, sweeping views of NYC’s skyline, and a decent climb back to the GWB, if you choose. Please be comfortable riding in traffic and a single formation. There are bailout options in Hoboken, with the Path and NY Waterways.

Do you want to take a trip back in time when hamburger stands like this were scattered throughout the United States? Let‘s take a trip to All American Burger. We‘ll start at the Mineola LIRR station and travel through the towns of Garden City, Uniondale, East Meadow, North Bellmore, Wantagh, and Seaford until we reach our destination in Massapequa. On our way back, we‘ll bike back on the Bethpage Bikeway through the Massapequa Perserve up to North Massapequa where we‘ll head west through Levittown, Salisbury, Uniondale, and Garden City back to the Mineola LIRR Station. We meet at the Mineola LIRR train station on the south side of the station at Station Road and 4th Avenue. There are two LIRR trains which arrive a little before 9:30 a.m. One train arrives at 9:01 a.m. and the other at 9:17 a.m. Mileage = 37

In observance of Juneteenth, we‘ll ride through Queens to visit places honoring African Americans. Some are well known and others were ordinary citizens. Mileage = 28

The 5BBC Weekday Spring Training Series consists of 8 weekly rides that start at 25 miles at 12 mph and progressively increase to 50 miles at 14 mph.

W-STS Blauvelt is a 49-mile ride that utilizes the 50-mile route of NYCC Escape New York. Blauvelt meets 9:00 at Dinosaur Playground.

Join us for an epic spin out to Point Lookout, the far western tip of the Long Beach Barrier Island — a stunning stretch of land nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Reynolds Channel. This 46-mile round trip is the perfect blend of coastal views, fresh ocean air, and the thrill of open-road riding.


Expect a mix of street terrain and a steady pace of 15 mph, making this ideal for experienced riders looking for a solid day in the saddle. Bailouts will be available for those unable to keep the pace or if the terrain proves too challenging. We’ll take a well-earned break at the beach, where you can kick back, catch some rays, and refuel before the ride back.

Beach Bum fun on a Summer Sunday. It‘s Summertime officially, and that means it‘s Beach Bum time! Join us as we kick off beach season with a ride to Manhattan Beach, nestled away in the wee corner of Brooklyn. We will hang out a bit, eat a picnic lunch, and bring your bathing suit and a towel for all you beach bums who want a dip. No dippin? Hang out with your fellow riders in the picnic area and enjoy the view of the bay. Members get full access to rides, discounts, and more. Join the club and enjoy the ride!

We all know Prospect Park. We‘ll be visiting some of Brooklyn‘s lesser-known green spaces.

The Club returns to a perennial classic lunch stop: delicious Indian food at the Jackson Diner in Jackson Heights, Queens. Though today there are scores, if not hundreds, of south Asian restaurants in this part of Queens, Jackson Diner was one of the first Indian restaurants in Jackson Heights when it opened around 1982. There must be a reason why it is still open more than 40 years later, and we‘ll see for ourselves whether the positive reviews on food blogs and from our members on prior visits are valid.

This will be an urban adventure by meandering around Central Queens and passing by or stopping at a prime number of parks (7) to enjoy the scenery. Distance = 32 miles.

The Perimeter Series begins with a 52-mile ride around New York City‘s only mainland borough.

Join us as we ride our Brooklyn Perimeter. We will swing through everyone‘s favorite boro on many greenways and through many different neighborhoods as we go round and round. Did you know Brooklyn would be America‘s fourth-largest city, if indeed it were a city? Come join us on this 55-mile adventure.

Come join the fun circling NYC‘s most diverse borough. The ride will begin and end in Long Island City, Queens, near Hunters Point South Park. The ride will be just under 52 miles long, and we will move at a quick pace given the distance we have to cover.

Round we go from the Eastside to the Westside , Beautiful views abound as we make our way around the Boro of Manhattan one of our five Perimeter rides . This ride is a 32 mile ride and is the baby of the bunch of our Perimeter series but oh so pretty . Saddle up and come join us

Join us for the Staten Island Perimeter Patch Ride! Earn your patch by completing all 5 borough perimeter rides. This one’s a 39-mile journey through greenways, industrial zones, and historic neighborhoods — a mix of old and new Staten Island. Expect mostly flat terrain with some low-grade climbs, perfect for shaking off the winter rust.
