Many Thanks to the 8/5/23 Summer Streets Volunteers; More Opportunities on 8/12/23 & 8/19/23

Eric Brooks | Published on 8/7/2023
Many thanks to the volunteers working Summer Streets on August 5th! Thanks to their help, we were able to assist more than 135 people who needed tires pumped, bolts tightened, flats fixed, brakes adjusted, wheels and spokes trued, gears adjusted, cables replaced, and chains lubed and fixed. We'll be following-up with the people we helped out, and I hope we'll see some of them on our rides in the next few weeks.

If you can volunteer this Saturday, August 12 and/or Saturday, August 19th, please email volunteer@5bbc.org. Let me know what time you prefer to work and whether you can pump tires, fix flats, adjust brakes, adjust gears, and adjust chains. Even if your mechanical skills are limited, there will be plenty of things to do such as marketing, getting people who can be helped quickly looked at right away, making sure that people needing to see a mechanic are seen in the right order, explaining Club rides from Happy Face to Quick Spin, and explaining point-drop-sweep.

Our tent will be on the east side of Park Avenue South near 26th Street. Summer Streets will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm, and we will also need a couple early birds who can help set up starting around 6:00 a.m. as well as people who can help with shutdown and loading up a car from 1 pm until about 2 pm.

Our volunteers this past Saturday were Senior Mechanic Steve Bauman, Ross Willard, Jim Zisfein, Joan Erskine, Toby Weiner, Rick Gallo, Erigove Thomas, Jeri Liaw, Beth Nash, Brooke Johnson, Viktor Umanskiy, Harlan Geller, Alfredo Garcia, and Phil Goldberg. Rides to and from the Club tent were planned or led by Sharon Behnke, Maggie Clarke, Wendy Frank, Ken Williams, Toby Weiner, and Maureen Gaffney.

[If you have already volunteered for August 12 or August 19, you don't need to reply to this message. I will be sending preliminary schedules out soon.]
