About this event
Lady Deborah Moody was called a 'Dangerous Woman." She was born in London in 1586. Her Anabaptist views were not popular in England, and she fled to the New World. Turns out that the Massachusetts Puritans didn't like her very much either. This time she fled to New Amsterdam, and was granted a charter for the new community of Gravesend in 1643. She set about planning her town with the first grid system in NYC. Lady Deborah's grid exists to this day. She is still there, and we are going to pay her a visit.
Along the way, we will ride through various Brooklyn Neighborhoods before getting to Canarsie Park. We'll check out the park, and then head to the Shore Greenway. Lunch will be at mile 15 at the popular L&B Spumoni Gardens, known for their great Sicilian slices. From L&B, it is only a short ride to Gravesend and the Deborah Moody House. After a little talk about the area, we proceed back home to Prospect Park.
Bring spare tubes, a decent lock, snacks if you get hangry, and a spirit of adventure. Bring lights because you never know. Ride will be at a moderate pace, 23 miles, and 370 feet of elevation with the steepest climb of 4%.
