Unfortunately, the LIRR is performing work this weekend making the ride too difficult in terms of logistics. We will look to list it again in the Spring.
Sunday, Sunday". To those of a certain age, that phrase was ubiquitous during the warm months as various commercials for National Speedway blasted from Radios all over the Metro area. Here is a link to those memories - https://youtu.be/9B2KDhinQFE?si=TNuCiZjwOEmJNl3J
So come join us for a Sunday ride that goes by the old National Speedway location as we take a Moriches exploration. National Speedway is no more. But the area has some excellent riding, with scenic water views and hopefully some fall foliage, and a stop at the amazing Nettie's where you can get one of their scrumptious treats.
We meet at around 9:15 at the Mastic Shirley LIRR train station. A train from the City is scheduled to arrive at about 9:16. For those driving to the start, there is plenty of free parking in the station lot. From there, we will ride 43 or so miles of flat to rolling terrain. Ride is listed as advanced moderate, but will be at the lower end or like a high moderate ride, given lots of turns and some dead ends as we intend to enjoy the sights. Nonetheless at times we may need to increase the pace to be sure to get back in time for the 2:26 return train to the City.
Please bring lunch or money for food at Nettie's (mostly a bakery, but it has more than sweet treats), along with the usual bike gear, sufficient hydration, and an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
