Members: Can you help the Club by volunteering at Summer Streets? The expanded Summer Streets will run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We need volunteers who can help out for a couple hours to a day. In Manhattan, the 5BBC table and repair station will be on Eastern Parkway.
Summer Streets is a multi-day, annual, car-free event. In Brooklyn, Eastern Parkway will be closed to car and truck traffic from the Grand Army Plaza to Buffalo Ave.The street will be open for people to play, run, walk and bike. There will be free public art installations, performances, and activities along the route. 5BBC has a decades-long relationship with this event where we pitch a tent, help repair bikes and invite attendees to learn about the Club.
Summer Streets will run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. But you don't have to work the entire day, as we can use your help for shorter periods. We do hope you can work four hours.
Here are the slots we are trying to fill:
- Set-up/Mechanic: 5:45 am to 10:00 am
- Mechanic: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
- Mechanic: 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
- Tables, Marketing, Line Management: 5:45 am (set up) to 10:00 am
- Tables, Marketing, Line Management: 6:30 am (set up) to 10:30 am
- Tables, Marketing, Line Management: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
To volunteer, let me know the times you want to volunteer and what you can do by emailing me at volunteer@5bbc.org. Please include "Summer Streets" in the subject line of your email. We need people who can do a 2-minute bike check, pump tires, fix flats, adjust brakes and brake cables, and adjust derailleurs, gears and chains. Even if you can't do these, we need volunteers who can manage lines for repairs and explain how Club rides work (including point-drop-sweep) to people enjoying Summer Streets.
